Rough light natural stone floors
How to maintain rough light natural stone floors
The surface of this floor type has a rough finish: sandblasted, brushed, nicked, flamed or cracked.
Why do we create this 'light rough flooring' category separately? Most end-users wish to keep the light colour tone of this floor type for as long as possible. Therefore, we do not recommend the use of stone soap, for example, because the 'saponification process' will eventually darken the floor.
The stone pores are quite open in this finish, making the surface susceptible to dirt and stain absorption.
FIRST TREATMENT
CLEAN
After installation, the floor should be cleaned thoroughly to remove all grout residue and construction dirt. Use Akemi Stone Cleaner for this purpose.
PROTECT
As this type of floor is sensitive to stains, an impregnation treatment is highly recommended. This makes the floor easier to maintain and provides good protection against the penetration of dirt and stains. Using a product with oleophobic properties gives the stone optimal protection, also against the penetration of oils and greases.
In terms of impregnation product, we recommend Akemi Anti Stain Nano. This product gives virtually no colour dilution.
The protection should only be applied after the floor is completely dry. For floors glued to a dry screed, this is after 6 to 8 weeks. If the floor has been installed on a sand bed with mortar, wait up to 6 months.
APPLICATION MATERIAL
Check out our handy applicators for applying cleaning product as well as for homogeneous application and polishing of impregnation product.
MAINTENANCE
DAILY MAINTENANCE
For mopping maintenance, we recommend Akemi Crystal Clean. This product cleans quickly and streak-free and is very suitable for matt floors that should not change colour tone. 20ml to a bucket of mopping water is sufficient.
We also recommend adding a dash of Akemi Anti Stain W (water-based) to the mopping water once a month to support the existing impregnation protection.
Use a mop or microfibre mop suitable for rough floors.
CLEANING
By cleaning we mean the occasional removal of stubborn dirt and any maintenance layers (=stripping). Use Akemi Stone Cleaner for this purpose. Only use this powerful cleaner if standard maintenance products cannot remove the dirt.
PROTECT
Check with the supplier whether your floor has already received an initial impregnation treatment. If not, you can still carry this out yourself. Repeating the impregnation treatment is generally not necessary for floors.

- Mop with a well wrung-out mop or mop. Too much water will make the joints dirty.
