Travertin countertops
How to maintain travertine worktops?
Travertine consists mainly, just like marble, of lime. The color can vary from very light beige to silver and red. The surface is full of cavities that are usually filled with polyester, epoxy or grout, but in some cases are also left open (non-filled). Most travertine comes from Italy or the Middle East.
FIRST TREATMENT
Travertine should be protected preventively with impregnation to optimally protect the surface against soiling, including the penetration of oils and greases.
Recommended products for this are Akemi Anti Stain Nano (very colourless) or Akemi Topshield (offers highest possible degree of protection).
See our handy applicators for homogeneous application and polishing of impregnation products.
MAINTENANCE
As a daily maintenance cleaner, we recommend Akemi Crystal Clean Spray. This product cleans and removes grease, dries quickly and is veil-free. Safe for all materials.
Additionally, use Akemi Triple Effect once a month. This 3-in-1 product cleans, conditions and protects. It supports and supplements the effectiveness of existing impregnations.
CLEANING
To remove grease films, maintenance layers and absorbed food residues, we recommend Akemi Natural Stone Basic Cleaner Spray. This powerful cleaner should only be used when your daily maintenance cleaner is not sufficient and additionally cleans dirty cavities in the stone (note that this cleaner must be left to act for several minutes).
You can also use this spray to thoroughly clean the worktop before an impregnation treatment.
PROTECT
Marble should be treated once or twice a year. Here we recommend Akemi Anti Stain Nano.
TIPS
- Always follow the instructions on the packaging of maintenance products.
- Travertine is a soft stone. Therefore, do not use scouring pads that are too abrasive as they can scratch.
- Acid etching stains can be removed with Telum hand sanding pads or fine sandpaper.
