Glue broken parts together
Is your bluestone really broken? Then it is best to get started with a weather-resistant adhesive, such as AKEPOX 5010. This two-component epoxy adhesive is ideal for bonding broken parts. AKEPOX 5010 is also extremely suitable for eliminating other damage in blue stone.
AKEPOX 5010 gives beautiful and lasting results when you restore your bluestone. This is how this product is:
- Frost resistant
- UV stable
- Also adheres to slightly damp surfaces
- Stable, non-sloping, gel consistency. Can be used both horizontally and vertically.
- Transparent in color, if desired easy to color with the AKEPOX Color Pastes.
- Non-shrink curing
Method:
- Roughen the surfaces to be glued (with grit 40 to 60) and degrease with Akemi Cleaner I or Cleaner P. With Cleaner P you can also remove uncured Akepox residues and the last layer of the epoxy
- Does the piece fit perfectly? Then you don't need dye.
- Are there pieces missing that you want to recover? Then you can color AKEPOX 5010 with Color Paste for Akepox.
- By mixing approximately 70% blue stone powder with AKEPOX, you also get the most beautiful repairs. This way you get the same look and feel as the stone itself after sanding.
- Mix the two components in a 2-to-1 ratio. , i.e. 2 parts component A to 1 part component B. You do this by making equal heaps or lines, each time 2 of component A and 1 component of B. Mix these well together so that you get a nice homogeneous mixture, it remains workable for 20 minutes at 20°C. Heat speeds up and cold slows down the process. Do not use product below 5°C, as sufficient curing does not take place.
- Apply glue to one or two sides and press them together well. Make sure you can hold the broken piece in place for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours. During this period of time, the bonded parts are transportable. After 12 to 16 hours, the bonding can be loaded and processed. Then you can start sanding/polishing if necessary.
