Filling cracks
There are several ways to correctly repair bluestone surfaces, depending on the extent of the damage:
1. Glue broken parts together
Is your bluestone really broken? Then it is best to get started with a weather-resistant adhesive, such as AKEPOX 5010. This two-component epoxy adhesive is ideal for bonding broken parts. AKEPOX 5010 is also extremely suitable for eliminating other damage in blue stone.
AKEPOX 5010 gives beautiful and lasting results when you restore your bluestone. This is how this product is:
- Frost resistant
- UV stable
- Also adheres to slightly damp surfaces
- Stable, non-sloping, gel consistency. Can be used both horizontally and vertically.
- Transparent in color, if desired easy to color with the AKEPOX Color Pastes.
- Non-shrink curing
Method:
- Roughen the surfaces to be glued (with grit 40 to 60) and degrease with Akemi Cleaner I or Cleaner P. With Cleaner P you can also remove uncured Akepox residues and the last layer of the epoxy
- Does the piece fit perfectly? Then you don't need dye.
- Are there pieces missing that you want to recover? Then you can color AKEPOX 5010 with Color Paste for Akepox.
- By mixing approximately 70% blue stone powder with AKEPOX, you also get the most beautiful repairs. This way you get the same look and feel as the stone itself after sanding.
- Mix the two components in a 2-to-1 ratio. , i.e. 2 parts component A to 1 part component B. You do this by making equal heaps or lines, each time 2 of component A and 1 component of B. Mix these well together so that you get a nice homogeneous mixture, it remains workable for 20 minutes at 20°C. Heat speeds up and cold slows down the process. Do not use product below 5°C, as sufficient curing does not take place.
- Apply glue to one or two sides and press them together well. Make sure you can hold the broken piece in place for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours. During this period of time, the bonded parts are transportable. After 12 to 16 hours, the bonding can be loaded and processed. Then you can start sanding/polishing if necessary.
2. Repair Cracks
To repair cracks, use the liquid Akepox 5000, a 2-component epoxy glue.
Advantages of this product:
- Frost resistant
- UV stable
- Also adheres to slightly damp surfaces
- Thick-running consistency. Mainly to be used horizontally.
- Transparent in color, if desired easy to color with the AKEPOX Color Pastes.
- Non-shrink curing
Method:
- Degrease the crack with Akemi Cleaner I or Cleaner P. With Cleaner P you can also remove uncured Akepox residues and the last veil of the epoxy.
- You don't need dye for fine cracks.
- If the crack is a bit more open, you can color the Akepox with Akepox color paste.
- You can make extra nice repairs by mixing +/- 70% stone powder of blue stone under the Akepox.
- Mix the 2 components in a mixing and measuring cup in a ratio of 2 to 1, i.e. 2 parts component A to 1 part component B. Mix these well together with a stirring stick so that you get a nice homogeneous mixture, it remains workable for 20 minutes at 20°C. Heat speeds up and cold slows down the process. Do not use product below 5°C, as sufficient curing does not take place.
- Mask the crack with masking tape for stone and pour the Akepox into the crack. After 12-16h the repair can be loaded and processed, so you can start sanding/polishing if necessary.
3. Repair Damage
For invisibly repairing broken pieces or pits, use Akepox 5010, a 2-component epoxy glue.
Advantages of this product:
- Frost resistant
- UV stable
- Also adheres to slightly damp surfaces
- Stable, non-sloping, gel consistency. Can be used both horizontally and vertically.
- Transparent in color, if desired easy to color with the AKEPOX Color Pastes.
- Non-shrink curing
Method:
- Degrease the area to be repaired with Akemi Cleaner I or Cleaner P. With Cleaner P you can also remove uncured Akepox residues and the last veil of the epoxy.
- Akepox 5010 coloring with Color Paste for Akepox.
- You can make extra nice repairs by mixing +/- 70% stone powder of blue stone under the Akepox. If larger pieces are missing, it is best to add gravel from the stone itself. This way you get the same look & feel as the stone itself after sanding.
- Mix the 2 components in a 2 to 1 ratio, i.e. 2 parts component A to 1 part component B. You do this by making equal heaps or lines, each time 2 of component A and 1 component of B. Mix these well. each other so that you get a nice homogeneous mixture, which can be used for 20 minutes at 20°C. Heat speeds up and cold slows down the process. Do not use product below 5°C, as sufficient curing does not take place.
- After about 12 hours, the repair is cured and ready for further processing (drilling, sanding, polishing,…).
4. Repair minor damage
Smaller repairs (up to a diameter of 2 cm) in blue stone can be carried out quickly and easily with the ready-to-use product Akemi Marmorkitt Thixo color dark grey.
Advantages of this product:

- Sanding with fine grains makes the glue darker.
- FYI: with honed bluestone, sand the glue with grit 400.
- UV stable
- Stable, non-sloping, thixotropic consistency. Can be used both horizontally and vertically.
